Why does iCloud Photos on Windows PC download two photos?

I am using iCloud for a Windows PC. I have it set to download my photos to my picture folder on my computer. Why does it download two pictures eventhough i only took one picture?

Hey squill,

Thanks for those answers. If you’re using an iPhone on iOS 11 or later, your iPhone is capturing the image in a high efficiency format that may not be fully compatible with your PC. When this happens your PC will save the original format as well as converting it to a format that is compatible with your computer.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. It looks like no one has responded to your post. Here are a couple of questions that might help others answer your question.

If you log into the iCloud website, are your photos duplicated there?
Is it happening with all photos or only some? If only some, which ones? (e.g. Live Photos, photos taken with specific modes, etc.)
What operating system are you using on your PC?
