Why does iCloud Photos on Windows PC download two photos?

I am using iCloud for a Windows PC. I have it set to download my photos to my picture folder on my computer. Why does it download two pictures eventhough i only took one picture?

Windows, Windows 10

Hey squill,

Thanks for those answers. If you’re using an iPhone on iOS 11 or later, your iPhone is capturing the image in a high efficiency format that may not be fully compatible with your PC. When this happens your PC will save the original format as well as converting it to a format that is compatible with your computer.

You can read more about the HEIF and HEVC format here: Using HEIF or HEVC media on Apple devices

Cheers!

Hey squill,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. It looks like no one has responded to your post. Here are a couple of questions that might help others answer your question.

  • If you log into the iCloud website, are your photos duplicated there?
  • Is it happening with all photos or only some? If only some, which ones? (e.g. Live Photos, photos taken with specific modes, etc.)
  • What operating system are you using on your PC?

Take Care!
