"Warning! Your computer is low on memory"

I have tried to delete some applications, and to clean up my desktop, but cannot do. Also, I can't shut down my iMac

And, the dang warning won't go away!

What should I do?

Please use Activity Monitor to manage your RAM. You can learn how in the information located at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201464

As you did not tell us anything about your iMac we don't know if it is one you can upgrade the RAM on it or not. Can you tell us the year and display size? If you are unsure, please click the Apple symbol in the upper left of the display and then click About this Mac.
