Do we know if there are any forthcoming plans for Catalina supporting Audacity? I know the recent Audacity update ended up not working on Catalina either... I need it for my work, and I'm stuck using an old mac that didn't update to Catalina yet.

Unfortunately, your issue is one only the Audacity team can resolve:
Audacity still does not support macOS Catalina properly, but can be used with a workaround. This is because we have not caught up with Apple’s requirements for ‘notarization’ yet. We are working on this for the next release.
