I have an iPad that I don’t know the password to the Apple ID/iCloud that was used to set up iPad originally... can I take it to Apple to get it unlocked?

My spouse passed away in 2015; I have an IPad that she used. I was trying to reset it and it’s asking for the Apple/icloud ID and Password used to originally set up IPad. I have the ID but I don’t know the password... I went to I forgot.apple.com and went through the steps, it said that there was no Apple/iCloud found... can you help me with this issue of unlocking my IPad???? I do have a death certificate. The Apple I’d used to set up the iPad originally is; Verizon no longer has email. My deceased wife’s I’d was the same as our email

Hello,

Firstly it is never a good idea to post your email address on these public forums.

The iPad is locked with Activation Lock. There is no way around unlocking Activation Lock without inserting the device’s associated Apple ID. Since this is not an option for you then you will need to find the original purchase receipt. You would then need the executor of the deceased's estate to take the device and receipt to an Apple retail location. Then and only then will Apple unlock Activation Lock.
