Deleting photos

Is it possible to delete photos from my MacBook with out deleting them from the ICloud. Or is this another one Apples downfalls. Them over thinking and overloading my hard drive.

If you are using iCloud Photos on your Mac, you cannot delete photos from your Photos Library without deleting them from iCloud and all other synced devices as well.

Tis is to be expected, because iCloud Photos is syncing service to keep the Photos Libraries on all devices identical to the library in iCloud. Deleting a photo from one synced library will remove it from iCloud and all other synced libraries. If you are using iCloud Photos to save storage on your Mac, enabled "Optiize Mac Storage" for your Photos Library. This will remove some of the high resolution original image files from your Mac, if more free storage is needed.
