When i start iMovie on my mac pro it comes up with the "What's new in iMovie" screen but then hangs (spinning disc). I have tried starting iMovie and deleting the preferences but still keeps happening. Any suggestions?

Try booting up in Safe Mode (see Finder help menu for instructions) and, after everything loads, immediately shut down and reboot in normal mode. Then see if you can open iMovie without it hanging up.
