Cannot add column of numbers in Pages table

Crazy that I can't figure out how to simply add a column of numbers in a table created in Pages. It was very simple in Word. I create a formula, e.g. =sum(b1:b20), and no total appears.

There isn't one line of MS Word code in Pages, so do not expect it to behave identically.

A selected table in Pages has two circle icons with a '=' for row, and '||' for column increment/decrement. If you right-click on an alphabet column, you will have the option to add a column before, or after the current selected column.

Single-click a cell before entering your equation.

See the Add Tables section of the online Pages User Guide for Mac.

Thanks for your reply! My table is already created in Pages, and I don't need to add columns or rows. I have a column of numbers that I want to total. I click on the cell where the total should appear. I have the option of inserting a formula, which I thought was =sum(b1:b20). Meaning Column B, rows 1 through 20. The number that appears is "3", which is not the correct answer at all.

Works here, with Pages 5.6.2 in OS X 11.6

Table contains 20 rows, and crosses a page boundary. Cells in column B exch contain their row number.

Formula shown is in cell A2.

Cell A5 contains the similar formula: SUM(B1:B20)

Which produces the same result.

Is it possible that some of the 'numbers' in your column are actually "Text" values.not "numbers"?

Barry
