keyboard backlight

I just purchased a 2019 13" Mackbook Air. When I open it up and it powers up, the keyboard backlights are off until AFTER I log in. Is this normal ? My Mid 2009 MacBook Pro doesn't do this.

Yes I agree with you however this has to do with security related to FILEVAULT. Your system has FileVault security ON. This is to protect your encrypted data. Your password is required to access this data when the computer is initially turned on. The same password entry also activates the keyboard backlight and therefore this behavior by the keyboard's backlight.
