my new XR has what seems like my complete iTunes music library but Catalina on MacBook Air missing a lot. Reluctant to 'connect' in case I loose. I probably would like to change library over to Spotify as iTunes has not delivered for me after years of perseverance.

Oftentimes the files are just spread over various places on your mac/external storage-devices...
