Apple Mouse is not turning on even with new batteries

I put in some new ones and it was working at first but then kept disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly. The next day, I put in a new pair of batteries and the mouse won't even turn on now.

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.15
