When i split clip in Quicktime player editing. HELP !

Ok so im editing a video in quicktime player editing (the one built in) and when i click split clip to give me 2 clips, it gets rid of my background audio for the entire video. Can u help please !

How to avoid erasing independent audio track when cutting a bit of video above ? Again struggling with FCP specialities: having a video clip and adding independent audio below it. Cutting and erasing a bit of video and the whole audio track is erased too. How to avoid this a bit weird behaviour ? And keep two tracks (audio/video) independent ? For me it does not make any sense - why, when erasing a bit of video track, the whole audio track below it (that is not a part of it) is erased ??

Can only split video in specific locations I'm sure this will be easy to answer. I want to make a music video for my song using clips from a bunch of different sources. I'm trying to add all the clips I want to use into iMovie, and then I'll move them around to the right part of the song. I can't seem to split video files when the part of the video in question extends past the song (the option is grey). I copied the song a few times so that it appeared underneath, but now that I try to split the video in that place it splits the song audio below, and not the video. I then moved the audio further to the right, thinking maybe it would continue to allow the split function but without splitting the audio, but the function actually disappears again, as you can see in the screen shot.
