I am so frustrated - how do you retore a back up to a phone from your mac

I backed up old phone to mac - went and got a new phone and now i can't retore new phone with back up

backup of second phone to pc trying to backup second phone to same pc but although it sees the second phone (by name given to it) it only gives option to set up as new phone or backup form the other phone. I fear wiping my wife's phone I pick set up as new phone. Is there somewhere I can get a backup of it done? Thanks.
