Why is there no built in compass app on iPads anymore?

My iPad mini 4 had the built in compass then after an update, the compass was gone. The Apple App Store said my iPad wasn’t capable of using it. But I downloaded other compass apps and they ALL worked just fine on my iPad mini 4. I now have a iPad 10.2 and no built in compass. The Apple App Store said the same thing about my iPad 10.2, that it wasn’t capable of using the compass app. Merry what gives!?
