Word is made by MicroSoft, so best to ask them for a definitive answer. But remember when you buy a software licence there is no promise to run forever on any OS that comes along. It promises to run on the OS you bought it on. Don't upgrade your OS and you won't have to buy it again. So I guess MS would probably say that you buy again to get new features on an up-to-date OS.
