Passwords in Safari not opening-do not know password

I have updated my password for my Apple account. In Safari preferences the "passwords" tab is asking for a password but none of my passwords are working?

I have tried a few ways but nothing is working?????

iMac, macOS 10.12

Safari Passwords When I enter Safari>Preferences>Passwords I get a message "Passwords Are Locked. To unlock passwords, enter the password for the user (followed by my name)". The box to Enter Password is blank. I assumed the password required was either my Apple ID password or my iMac Password. Neither worked. I then simple pressed the Enter button and I was in! Is there a way of adding a password to this box to give me a little more security? Thanks

Redundant password request In Safari, when logging into a site, I put my user name. The key symbol shows up. When clicking on it, a pop up window asks for my apple password and prevents me to enter the site specific. It is redundant, time consuming and very annoying. Months ago, when clicking on the key symbol, the password field was automatically filled up.

Do you have more than one User name or Apple ID? This is a source of doubt and confusion for me as I have two MacBooks with different administrator names for me both linked to my iCloud account. Your old password might still work in the Passwords pop-up in Safari.
