Apple Watch

I want to purchase an Apple Watch, but I have Consumer Cellular for my provider. I was told that I must pair the watch with my Bluetooth on my I phone and keep my phone close me to for it to work. Is that the case? I am paying a month fee for my phone through Consumer Cellular and want to know when that is paid off, can I remove the Sim card and go with another provider such as Verizon or Sprint to have my watch work independently?

Thank you.

The watch works with most carriers and is not locked to them.

It will connect to your iPhone via Wifi and bluetooth.

If you have the cellular watch you will need to have a carrier that supports the Apple Watch and that you are paying the extra money for that plan.

The watch, to the best of my knowledge, can not be locked by a carrier as a phone can be.
