Four days ago the notice of an update that would be done overnight appeared. It is on the screen every day, several times a day. I have automatic update activated and it still does not occur. I also leave my iPad plugged in overnight. I go to settings and see there is an update available but when I tap “install now” nothing happens. Why does this keep saying it will update automatically and it doesn’t and it won’t let me update manually. Any ideas?

I purchased two of these at the same time and the other one has accepted the most recent update. Ineedipad4dummies is suggesting I try freeing up some memory to see if that helps. I plan to give it a try
It worked! Thank you. I went in and cleaned up my storage and tried again in settings to do it manually and it worked. Thanks again for the help, an not making me feel foolish.
It is an iPad Air model ME993LL/B I bought in 2016 from Verizon and got the impression it was an older model because it was on sale.
Mine did the same thing. I didn't have enough memory, I had to store some things in the cloud before it would install.
Glad it worked !
