Command/Shift + Click = Show Desktop

I am wondering why when I either hold command and click or hold shift and click I get a weird box with two options to "show desktop" (see picture). Currently on 10.15.2 MBP 16"

MacBook Pro 16", macOS 10.15

If this is third party interferences,

I would question:

DNG Suite (installed 2014-06-04) (?)

[Running] com.backblaze.bzbmenu.plist (Backblaze - installed 2019-12-27)

[Running] ChronoSync Scheduler (Econ Technologies, Inc. - installed 2019-12-18)

[Running] com.bjango.istatmenus.fans.plist (Bjango Pty Ltd - installed 2019-10-07)

[Running] com.bjango.istatmenus.daemon.plist (Bjango Pty Ltd - installed 2019-10-07)

Save to Pocket - App Store (installed 2019-12-04) Safari extension

Start with the 1st one and use the official uninstaller— then see if it makes a difference. Reboot maybe necessary.

One at a time, proceed in an effort to identify the conflict

To trouble shoot further you can:

  Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache,  etc.  Login and test. Reboot and test will take a little longer as caches get rebuilt. Reboot as normal and test.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

Test issue in another user (or guest user) account  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204443

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

I think I followed the directions correctly and restarted into safe mode. I didn't have any sort of longer log-in process though. Is that only something that happens on HDDs? If not, I may have missed a step.

What I did find out:
1) it does not do the "show desktop" thing in safe mode
2) it does not do the "show desktop" thing in a guest user account
3) the problem persisted after logging back into the personal account
4) the problem persisted after rebooting normally following safe mode

Thoughts?

Good work— isolated to your user is progress.

To get a good look at your System config. for conflicts or issues, you can run this utility http://etrecheck.com

If you need help interpreting the report you can post it here in its entirety in the "Additional Text" box in the editing toolbar below, in your reply.

You can set its preference to "Allow full Disk Access",  with this you get a digest of issues from the last 7 days that are saved in your system.
