Can't update Mac OS

Received a MacBook Pro for Christmas (Mid 2009). It's running OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.6. I can't download Pages or Microsoft Office (only two I've tried) because it says I need a newer OS version. I tried downloading the newest version, Catalina, but it says I can't download it. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have a Macbook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013) running OS X El Capitan v 10.11.6 I need to update the os version as certain things (e.g. the updater for MS Office software) won't run any more unless I do so. Unfortunately when I attempt a Software Update it says there are no newer software versions available for me to upgrade to. 13 Inch Macbook Late 2007 A1186 OS Upgrade I have a 2007 Macbook A1186 3.1 4gb Ram which has a OS x 10.7.5 . I have tried many ways and versions of updating . The most recent was EL Capitan which failed saying OS 10.11 can not be installed. Is thier something or setting wrong with my Mac? Alternatively can I get a version of any description that will allow me to download to higher versions? I am getting frustrated. Is the App Store the only way to download?

MacBook Air (mid-2013) upgrade to Mojave When I click on the Mojave 10.14 link given in the support page "How to get older versions of mac os," the app store opens to the Mojave page, but no installer downloads, and if I click on "Open," I get a message that the installer is damaged. I don't want to upgrade to Catalina or later, due to 32-bit concerns.

El Capitan is as far as it will upgrade, it doesn't meet the specs for Sierra or High Sierra:
