Probably because Microsoft are officially dropping support for Windows 7 January 14th and everyone else is getting with the program. It is, I suppose, possible that the next release of iTunes for Windows won't work on Windows 7. I'm still somewhat reluctant to upgrade but at some point staying on Windows 7 is going to be a security risk.
