Cannot delete from iCloud

Hi, I'm in the process of clearing up my iCloud space, downloading photos in batches of 1000 and then deleting them from the cloud. Have been doing this for about 9,000 photos over the last 24 hours and now I get an error message saying I cannot delete due to an error... I have already rebooted my Mac and tried afresh... no good. Any ideas?

Open recently deleted folder , select few photos ( hold shift key and click on them ) , and click on delete button .

Make sure don't select photos in large number .
