Issues with Family Sharing

Hi there... can anyone perhaps help me with one or two things regarding Family Sharing which I simply cannot seem to get right?

You are welcome. Each family member should have their own Apple ID. Apple IDs aren't meant to be shared.

If you and your wife are using the same Apple ID, that will cause the error when you are seeing when she changes the name of her device. If you are sharing an ID, create a new ID for her.

Device Name Change

When changing to the new ID, there may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed. See Winston Churchill's response in the below discussion.

Thanks Eric...

So I have a family of 4... I've managed to add my daughter who is 12 as child without any issues, but as soon as I try and add my wife and son (16), it tells me the invitation was sent. They then get a notification, but when they click on it, nothing happens.

Taking a step back - does each member of the family need their own Apple ID or is this not a requirement?

Last but not least, how do I "fix" the identity assigned to all of the devices linked to my iCloud storage? I have three devices that just state "iPhone 7" and I would like to "name" them so we know which is which. When my wife names her phone, that suddenly becomes the organizer of the Family Sharing whereas I am the organizer... how do I fix this?

Thanks in advance
