I purchased what was suppose to be an Apple Digital AV adapter from Walmart. When I plug my hdmi cable in to my iPad or iPhone and try to use it a QR code pops up to download EZ Cast. Is this a fake apple product?
Might be an issue with the adapter.
You can try restarting the iPhone and iPad, though I doubt this would solve anything.
As it stands it would probably be best to return it to Walmart and get a replacement or refund however.

Where is this QR code appearing? When you do what exactly?
Does your iPhone / iPad screen appear on your TV when you plug it in?
Are you in a particular app when the QR code appears?
My home screen of my iPhone XR appears about 1 out of 3 tries but only if the power is connected to the adapter as well. Otherwise nothing happens. My iPad on the other hand shows the home screen about 1 out of 10 tries and same thing it has to have the power cord as well. If I open any app, Netflix, Disney +, YouTube it stalls either device and a blue screen appears the the QR code on any of the TVs and my device goes black. I’ve tried three TVs and three brands of HDMI cables.
What are you plugged into at the other end when you do this?

Take it back and ask Walmart
I think it's your tv giving you that, nothing to do with your adapter or iphone.
