iPad multiple users

My wife and I are retired (baby-boomers). Owning individual devices is expensive that we can no longer afford to do. We need to upgrade our outdated devices. We would like to purchase one device that we can both share. Does the newest iPad allow for multiple users on one device?

There is no reason that you can’t share an iPad to use for surfing the web, reading email through a browser or an app, playing games, watching videos and so on. You can even use it for reminders, contacts, and calendars if you don’t mind sharing those things.

If you want total privacy, then sharing a device isn’t the way to go since it doesn’t support multiple user accounts.

Mail in iOS can use separate "mailboxes" with a different account in each. I have mine set up to do my main acct and a "throwaway" yahoo acct:

When we had but one iPad, this is how we shared it. More of an issue are things like Safari where you must agree to share bookmarks.

Netflix allows multiple user accts in its iOS version; Prime Video does not. Games, well that is on a game-by-game basis. I don't have a lot but those I have don't have a provision for multiple users accts.

You won’t be able to link two iPhones (each with a unique phone number) to your iPad under a single AppleID.

Your iPad will only be able to share phone-features (such as SMS messages and WiFi Calling features) with a single iPhone. You can turn-off (or disable) sharing of these features in iCloud if you wish - but expect to run into unexpected problems. Many an end-user has stumbled into a right mess when sharing a single AppleID between two more people.

These are all helpful suggestions and I thank everyone who took the the time to respond. My wife and I do not mind sharing contacts, mail, calendars, etc., but the iPhones are separate devices.....because first and foremost they are a telephone but the photographs that each iPhone can take. It is the iTunes/photographs to sync with a single iPad in which that is not going to happen. May have to look at creating one iTunes account that two iPhones can share the same account and sync in which it can then all sync to one iPad device.

I appreciate the response, this information is very helpful. It would appear that Apple promotes their iPad & iPhone products to be strictly single user. The iPhone I understand, the other products I do not. The cost of a standard iPad is acceptable to us, the cost of an iPhone is absolutely ridiculous. For a married retired couple to upgrade 2 phones & 2 iPads the cost is unjustifiable. We have small size phones (5S) because crippled hands cannot hold large phones and we like iPads because failing eyes can see a larger screen better (FaceTime with Grand children). We like Apple products because they plain and simply just work. We will need to rethink our strategy regarding Apple products and come up with something that will both work for us AND that we can afford. Thank-you again everyone for responding to my question.
