Trouble connecting Canon Printer to network using Airport Extreme

I just replaced a Canon Maxify MB2720 with an identical model when the unit died out of warranty. I have both an Airport Extreme and an Airport Express to extend the network. It connects to the Express which is far from the printer but will not connect to the Extreme which is in the same room. Therefore my printing is ridiculously slow. I have even unplugged the Express so that only the Extreme was active but it will not accept the password and connect and I know the password is correct since it is the same for the Express. Any ideas?

Looking at the specs your printer should have ethernet.

Try plugging it into the Extreme by ethernet. You will likely need to turn wireless off.

If you really must use wireless, I would start over and reset the Extreme .. reconfigure it with all short names <8 Characters, no spaces and pure alphanumerics. Passwords the same but 8-20 characters.

You will then need to reconfigure the Express.

Still got issues.. tell us..

What model is the Extreme? How old as even the most recent model could be up to 6.5years now and that is ancient in wireless world.

Do you have lots of wireless around you? Do a survey and check the actual signal strength near the Extreme.

Set a specific channel for 2.4ghz.. 8 or 9 is sometimes a good choice.

As BTW I am running a brother laser with both wireless and ethernet. The printer is a few years old and wireless got to the point where I just found I had to power cycle the printer every time I needed to print. Swapping it to ethernet fixed it.

It is the last model of the extreme and has the most current firmware. I did not reset the Extreme as I might have to reconnect everything in the house back to it even using the same SSID and Password. I was thinking of doing what you suggest but need to do it at a time when no one else needs computer access as my iMac is the only thing connected by lan cable. For some reason I think I may have had this issue originally setting up the previous same model printer, but do not remember. I thought Canon wanted me to use their software programs to print but that defeats the whole purpose. I do not remember what I did to get it right. Thanks for your suggestion

Thanks for your help. I got it working. It appeared that the Bonjour was not setting up properly, and once I got that going, even though I am connected to the Express Mac Address far from the Printer, iMac and Extreme, all is working fine and fast. Not sure if it was me who messed up, Apple or Canon, but at least I do not have to call Canon tomorrow. If I remember right, I had this issue with my last one. The only reason I bought the same printer is that I had just replaced all of the ink cartridges in the Canon and I was able to use them in this one. With a cost of $99 for the printer that came with a complete set of ink including a large black cartridge, and the fact that I was able to reuse over $70 in ink that I had just replaced, it became a no brainer
