how can i reset the pass code on my iPad i connected it to my laptop but it won't allow it to connect to my itunes

You have to erase the device in order to reset the passcode. Did you follow these instructions?

If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support
