Importing Photos

I’m trying to import photos from my IPhone X onto my 2017 MacBook Air. I’ve tried Photos and Image Capture. When doing it on photos, it freezes importing and I have to force quit it. I’ve tried importing a smaller amount like 40 at a time, and it gives an error for every photo after completion. On image capture, it does the same thing.
