Will apple continue to make ipad obsolete?

I recently recieved an ipad air for Christmas, I did not intend to purchase further IOS devices due to Apples insistence on making item unusable after a certain number of years. I heard they will no longer being doing this, but cannot find a source to confirm.

Yup.

Phil0124 is quite correct.

Android devices get only 2-3 years of device upgrades/updates support!

Apple provides between 4-6 years of iOS upgrades/updates.

The 2013, 1st gen iPad Air got 6 years of iOS upgrades/updates.

My 4-year old, under $200, Android phone got ONLY two, count ‘em, two years of Android upgrades/updates and this past year, 2019, many of the Google Play Store apps are no longer compatible with my $175 Alcatel Android phone.

My next phone purchase this year is going to be an iPhone 8 or 8 Plus!

While I understand that technology will improve, having a device that just will no longer upgrade is frustrating and unacceptable in my opinion. At these price points I could buy an android tablet at 1/3 of the cost, that will fit my needs for this type of device. Clearly I will be selling this device, thanks for proving my point. Your rudeness wasn't necessary at all.

Be prepared to stop getting updates on an Android device much much sooner than on Apple devices

Unless you get a flagship Android product which will be close to Apple's iPad in price, software updates are few if any for most Android tablets.

You'll be hard pressed to find a tablet that is more than 2 or 3 years old and still getting Android updates.

We’re at the tenth version, after all, and the story on upgrades is the
same today as it was a decade ago: first-party Google devices get
updated quickly, everything else takes months or doesn’t get updated at
all.

Yup. 2-3 years in a best case scenario. As I've commented before, my mother's Motorola G5, got 1 major Android update from 7 Nougat to 8.1 Oreo and that happened 2 years after Oreo was officially released by Google. I doubt it will see any more updates at this point.

If anything 5 or 6 years of un interrupted updates, is in my book better than maybe 1 or 2 without any semblance of a release schedule behind them.
