Not enough disk space on new MacBook

I recently got my MacBook, only a couple days ago. But when I try using iMovie, it comes up with the error, "Not enough disk space." It still says that there is 132 GB of storage left though. I have not used iMovie on this MacBook before but this error comes up whenever I try to put anything in iMovie. Whether it be a video or a 5 second audio clip. I am confused on why this error is coming up, and would appreciate any help on this.

Thank you,

Joshua Holden

Hi, joshua,

Several users have reported the "not enough disk space" issue. Fortunately, it can be easily cured by redownloading iMovie. To do that drag your iMovie app from the Applications folder into the trash, but don't empty the trash. Then sign in at the app store with your Apple I.D. and password. Open your app store account by clicking on your I.D. name at the bottom of the app store side bar. When your account opens you will see your purchases listed, including iMovie. Download iMovie from there. If for some reason the download is inapplicable or unsuccessful, you can drag your old iMovie out of the trash and put it back in the Applications folder. However, it should be successful. Once the redownload is complete the "not enough disk space" problem will be cured.

The Storage tab is known to report incorrectly. Also check by choosing your Mac HD and "Get Info" (command-i). It may be different. Try rebuilding Spotlight index.

How to rebuild the Spotlight index on your Mac - Apple Support

You can also download Omni DiskSweeper:

https://www.omnigroup.com/more

DiskSweeper can give you a more accurate read of disk space than Finder or Storage Tab of About this Mac. It can also show you the precise size and location of all your files. It will inventory your disk starting from the files that take up the most space. If you want you can even delete files from OmniDisk Sweeper. But be careful some of the items may be important to your system.

But if you purchased it new from Apple you have 14 days to return it for a full refund and also 90 days of free telephone support (800-MYAPPLE) I suggest you use it to open a ticket.
