Login password requested twice

When starting up my Macbook Pro it prompts me to enter the user password twice. The prompt is displayed as normal over the background wallpaper and upon entering it the bar indicating startup appears, yet once it has completed boot up the background changes (with Catalina it jumps from the night to day image) and then the prompt for the same password appears once more. This is troubling from a security perspective and I see a number of other users have the same issue. This occurred on Yosemite and has continued with Catalina. Some comments here suggest this may be associated with Firevault and/or multiple accounts on one system. This could make sense as I have set up a guest account, although I never use it. However, this does not seem to serve a purpose and any support on how to prevent it or why it occurs is appreciated.

If you have File Vault enabled this would require as you describe.

You do no have to log out at ever session, simply close the lid and let the computer sleep.

You can always lock the screen control command Q if deemed necessary before you close the lid.

The preboot partition contains the code which handles the login for an encrypted drive, after that is successfully unlocked it is handed off to the main OS

When you have an encrypted boot volume you receive a log-in screen before the main OS boots, you have to authenticate that in order for the encryption key for the boot volume to be released.

Thanks for the reply, but the problem is the system is prompting back to back password logins upon start up...two requests for password logins one right after the other prior to accessing the system. Why is this occurring? I have tried changing my password and it persists. I'm pretty sure this only happens at start up. After the computer has been asleep it only asks once, which is of value and not the issue.
