Macbook Air freezes for Admin login

I’ve looked at the other threads on Login freezes but don’t see my particular issue. My MacBook Air (High Sierra) boots up ok but when I try to login on my Administrator profile it gets about 95% down the “line” and just sticks there. The twist is that I can login just fine to the other two profiles; it’s just the Admin profile that freezes.

I’ve rebooted in Safe mode and the only difference is that instead of freezing on the “white line” it goes to the spinning wheel and freezes.

Any suggestions particularly given the ability to login to all other profiles but the main one?

Since Safe Mode isn't working either that probably eliminates Login items. It is possible there is some corrupt preference file preventing you from logging in. If you have apps re-open on login, perhaps one of these apps is the problem or a file one of these apps is accessing. I don't recall if Safe Mode relaunches your apps when you log in.

You can use Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) to easily make an image of your user account so you don't lose anything.

If you know your way around the command line you could try deleting preferences within your account or prevent apps from automatically re-opening to see if you can find out what is blocking you, but I do not recommend this unless you are familiar with the command line as it is very easy to make a big mistake. If you try, then make sure to have a current backup of all your user accounts and use CCC to image the data in the broken account.
