I'm trying to use mac os recovery to install high sierra onto a new disk that i'm going to install onto my late 2012 mac mini. i'm pressing command r at startup but mac os recovery isn't loading, it just restarts normally

Yes, the drive is encrypted. I first used a wireless keyboard. But then I hooked up an old wired Mac keyboard pressing the command r buttons
Is your Drive encrypted?
Are you using Wired or bluetooth KB, try the former.
And the wired isn't working either?
Not sure exactly how it works, but thinkI've read that encryption prevents Recovery mode...
I’ll see if I can turn off encryption and see what happens. I did download the os separately but may check it out anyway. Thanks!
