apple tv reboot, remote control won't work.

Our Apple TV was not working so we took it to Apple store, where the technician reset our Apple TV back to original. He told us to take it home and set it up like a new apple tv. When we try to set it up, the remote control won't work. We tried the fix of pressing and holding the menu and volume up button, but that doesn't work. Any suggestions?
