Unable to view Chinese in Pages 09

Is there anyone who manage to open chinese text in Pages 09? There are some chinese text files that I can open but not all. I believe there are some chinese encoding that is not supported. Does anyone knows where to install additional language pack? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Pages is not appropriate for opening text files with unusual encodings -- it does not have any way to select which one it uses. So instead open your file with something like TextEdit. There in the File > Open dialogue you can choose which encoding to use, either UTF-8 or 16 or a number of legacy Chinese encodings. Then copy/paste into Pages.

OSX does not have language packs like Windows.

OSX uses Unicode with whatever necessary fonts, which includes OpenType and Windows TrueType fonts.

You could resave your legacy Chinese documents from MSWord for Windows to Unicode documents.

There used to be some issues with some characters missing in Traditional Chinese but available in Simplified Chinese, but if you use Unicode that should get around it.
