Catalina Panic crashed

Catalina Panic crashed

Running Catalina on an external SSD for about a week now.

No other external connections.

Keeps crashing for no apparent reason. Everything freezes up and then restarts after about a minute or so.

After reboot i'm prompted to send a report to Apple that start with: " panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff7f84883a8d): watchdog timeout: no checkins from watchdogd in 99 seconds (30 total checkins since monitoring last enabled)

"

Is this solved in any way or Apple simply doesn't give a dang?

It just crashed for the 7th time today.

Had an NTFS Seagate Expansion but it was connected to USB without power. So i doubt that's the issue.

This is happening on two SSDs, both with Catalina installed as OS.

Hasn't happened nor happens with internal HDD, with Mojave.

Uninstall Paragon following the developer's instructions.

If it doesn't panic, then look for an update or replacement for Paragon.

If you really need to share drives with a Windows computer, try ExFAT instead of NTFS. Then you won't need Paragon.

The Latest report shows no sign of Paragon. If you have any external hardware connected, disconnect it.

if you still have panics, you have an internal hardware fault. Take it to an Apple Store or certified repair center for evaluation.

You can run Apple Diagnostics. It may find a problem, but it isn’t very thorough.

I am having the exact same issue on my 2018 iMac and have been unable to get any solution since upgrading to Catalina. My wife's MacBook was also panic crashing at least twice per day until i retrograded her machine back to Mojave. I'm thinking that might be the only solution for my iMac as well.

I had the same issue in a MacBook Pro 15, late 2018. Crashes for no apparent reason. Solution: downgraded to Mojave and it looks to be ok.

Real problem is Catalina and not the hardware. Apple support kept telling me to sent my laptop to repair because there could be issued with ssd. But it looks that Catalina still has issues even in the latest 10.15.2.

Or more likely you have third party kernel extensions that don’t work in Catalina.

This is why I suggested to the OP to post an Etrecheck report. Catalina works fine for the vast majority of users. No software is free of bugs, of course, but frequent panicking is not what most of us are experiencing.

Unfortunately I had to take mi Mac to Genius bar, because after downgrading to Mojave, I began to have crashes continuously. But the crash report now showed the it was generated by something called Bridge OS 4.2:

Switched back to Mojave.

Less crashes but still happens.

Update:

Crashes still happen.

Sometimes when working with Photoshop, sometimes Illustrator.

Just had a crash while posting a Google Post.

Sometimes crashes when downloading large files from Mega.nz or torrent.

It simply seems that OS has a problem working from an external SSD via the Thunderbolt port.

We have no idea what is installed on your machine. Catalina works fine from an external SSD. There may a problem with your drive or, far more likely, a software issue with some other stuff.

Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here.
