Ipod Photo Cache

I have folder called iPod Photo Cache on my Windows 10 PC. I no longer use an iPod. I only have a iPhone 7 and an iPad Air 3. Do I need this folder and its contents? I want to make sure it’s not also being

leveraged by one of these other Apple Products before I delete it.

Yes you can safely delete it.

Recently found an "ipod photo cache" in my Pictures folder. Can I look at it? Can I delete it safely? Running MacOS High Sierra on an iMac. I use this computer daily. It synchronises my iPhone X and iPad (recentish). I take photos on the iPhone, but not many on the iPad. I'm moving from Photos to Adobe Lightroom as I really need more sophisticated photo management stuff these days, so I'm doing a bit of a cleanup of my exported pictures, just to free up as much space as possible. Found a completely new folder from April 2020 called "iPod Photo Cache". It definitely wasn't there before! It contains an "Apple TV Photo Database" and "Photo Database", and a bunch of folders which then contain files with the .ithmb extension, dating from June 2020 - ie, this month. June 10, in fact - the June long weekend in Australia, when we had visitors around (we're allowed to now! - it's MOST exciting). Now, I know this is a backup/sync system for iPods. But no-one here uses iPods any more - that I'm aware of. I'm pretty confident that if I delete the folder, it'll have no impact on any of my systems. But now I'm curious, and I'd like to see what's in there before I delete it, if I can. Photos, Lightroom and Affinity Photo don't recognise the ithmb extension. iTunes does, but nothing happens when I try to open them. Image Capture can't be persuaded to see them. I don't think I've got any other applications that are likely to see them. Is there anything I can use to see these thumbnails?

Delete iPod Photo Cache? I now use iCloud Photos Library on my MacBook and iPhone and iPad. In the past I used iTunes (now Finder) to sync the photos on my MacBook to my iOS devices - therefore my MacBook has a large iPod Photos Cache. Since I no longer do hard-wired syncing, can I safely delete that iPod Photo Cache to free up GBs of storage on my MacBook?

Ipod Caches I have found iPod Caches file on my iMac and cannot view pictures and fear that perhaps these are photos which I will miss if I delete them. I wonder if these files are from backups from my iPhone or backups from my photo library. Without being to view them without buying third-party hackwork, can I return them to iPhone or do anything with them before losing them? Past references to this subject pointed to a non-existent forum article. Thank you for any help.

Yes you can safely delete it.

You can delete it but it will comeback when you sync photos to your computer from your iphone.

I delete all the time.........

They just haven't changed the name of the folder that is created. It contains a cache of the photos that are synced. As fyip said, it will be recreated the next time you sync photos.
