I just had the hard drive (3TB) replaced on my 27 inch Mac desktop. I am trying to restore data using Time Machine via ethernet. I probably have about 2TB of information to transfer. It has been preparing my user documents for about an hour and a half with no movement. Does this seem normal?
Set the Computer Sleep to Never and only sleep the Display.
What are your Time Machine backups stored on?
It would be way better if you can connect the backup drive, time capsule or whatever it is directly to your iMac.
That should work, but it's going to take a very long time to Restore or Migrate 2T of data back compared to using Time Machine on an external USB hard drive.

If HDD, about 24 hrs.
My back up is my Apple Time Capsule Wi-Fi. It is directly connected to my Mac so that I can transfer my files.
How long should I expect it to take. Also, is it a problem if the computer wants to sleep. I can't watch it every minute.
