problems with streaming from Apple TV+ through our Apple TV Gen 2

Recently subscribed to Apple TV+. Went to watch some content but I cannot get our Apple TV gen2 to stream - constantly comes up with "unable to stream content". Have tried mirroring from my iPhone (11 Pro) - nope. Tried streaming to the Apple TV from my Mac (latest os installed this morning) - nope. Confirmed I'm working everything across the same wireless network. Can still stream other content already owned - just nothing from the new subscription service. TV is a 2017 Samsung SUHD 4K Series 9 smart model. Am wondering if the problem is our old Apple TV model..... Thoughts?
