Why does my phone say no SIM card?

I can think of 3 possible reasons:

1. You do not have a SIM card in the phone
2. You have a SIM card in the phone, but it is either not activated or is defective
3. Your phone is broken.

A SIM card is required to get cellular service and to activate the phone.
