When i import a MP3 audiobook it shows as a Music file which I then have to change, but it does not change the original file so if I have to reimport I have to go through the same process every time. Is there a solution to this please?

Media Kind isn't an internal property of a media file. It is usually inferred from file type, not always successfully.
See Audiobooks of iPods for some thoughts. Assimilating the files into an .m4b audiobook would mean that it always reimports as an audiobook, but that requires additional effort on your part that might not be worth it.
