how to set up a shared photo album from one Mac to another

You create a Shared album and list him as one of the recipients. That way he'll be able to view it with Photos on his Mac.

Don't use the public website option.

Are they both your Macs or different users on each Mac?

Will both users have the same Apple ID or separate Apple IDs?
