way to show text notifications on iPhone only?

I would prefer to only receive iMessage/text notifications on my iPhone XS and not my iwatch 5. Is that possible? When I customized notifications in the Watch app on my iPhone to “notifications off ”, I stopped receiving iPhone text notifications as well (when my iPhone was locked). Is it possible to only receive text notifications on your iPhone when you have a paired iwatch? Thanks!
