Hello!
I would probably say go ahead with the chlorinated water (by which I assume you meaning a swimming pool?). I haven’t had issues after 50+ swimming workouts. Sure the speaker gets a bit muffled but then the water evaporates and it’s good as new.
Salt water I’ve never tried and I’m less certain with this, mainly because I don’t want the water evaporating afterwards leaving salt all inside the watch. I imagine you can do it, but certainly wash the watch and speaker holes through with freshwater afterwards if you do.
Apple only really discouraged three things on their site: High velocity water (e.g. jet skiing), oils (shampoo, creams etc.), and steam rooms/saunas. I also tend to stay away from extreme temperatures, hence why I don’t wear mine showering.
I hope this helps!

**I’d like to clarify by rinsing with fresh water, I meant (warm) normal, clean tap water. I’ve always done this after any kind of swimming too.
I wouldn't recommend it,get salt inside your watch and it's game over.
