Restore deleted iMessages iOS 13.3

Well, I finally did it too! I thought I was deleting a text thread from my phone, but since I recently started using iCloud, the thread disappeared from both devices. Is there a way to get it back?

Hi Yllek2,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you’re looking to recover a deleted message thread. I’m happy to provide some information.

If you were using Messages in iCloud when you deleted the messages, you would not be able to recover them. You can check to see if you were using this feature by tapping Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Messages.

If you were not using this feature, the only option for recovering deleted messages would be to restore from a backup created before you deleted them. This option would delete any information added to your device since the backup was created.

If you choose to restore from a previous backup, you can find steps below:

Locate backups of your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

Take care.

Thank you for that information : )

I believe you are indeed correct. It seems like I’m learning more and more about the cloud as I go. I never quite trusted it, and things like this are part of the reason. Then agsin, I keep running out of disk space, so I guess I’ll keep using it! Now, I know about the iMessages.

can you tell me this—if I have one device that receives iMessages and I do *not* use iCloud for those messages, would all threads remain on there even if deleted from the cloud?

thanks again.
