Airdrop from older mac to new airbook?

Is it possible to AirDrop from my old MacBook Pro running El Capitan to my new MacBook Air? I opened AirDrop on the new Mac and selected "search for older Macs", that worked, the computers found each other. However when I try to AirDrop a folder from the old MacBook, the new computer does not receive the notification. Sometimes the attempt just spins waiting for confirmation and other times it said it was declined by the MacBook Air.
