Security update 2019-002 for Mojave problem

I have a MacBook Pro less than a year old but I'm running Mojave because Catalina screwed up my email. I've tried three times to download and install security update 2019-002, and when I restart system still says I still have the same security update to install.

What do I do?

Three things to try:

[First, before doing anything backup all your files. I suggest doing both a Time Machine backup and a different kind of backup, such as a bootable "clone."]

(1) Boot into Safe Mode and try applying the update again.

(2) If that does not work, boot into CMD-R recovery mode and use Disk Utility to check your disk and repair it if necessary.

(3) If that still does not resolve the issue, boot into CMD-R and select the option to reinstall the operating system, selecting the option that does NOT erase or remove your files and data (e.g. do NOT select the option to erase or format the drive).

Certainly try to install it when in Safe Mode, but reinstalling the OS is a bit of an overreaction.

First of all before attempting to install updates from Apples servers it is often wise to connect your mac to your router

using a cabled connection. Do not use the mac while it is downloading and if other devices share the same connection, don't use them either.

You can also try downloading the standalone update from Apple Support Downloads,

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2027?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Once downloaded double-click to install.
