time machine backup of SDHC card

I use a Western Digital external drive to back up my 2011 MacBook Pro using Time Machine. If I have a SDHC card inserted in its slot, will the backup automatically include the content on the SDHC card or do I need to do a separate back up of it?

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, winston611.

If I understand your post correctly, you are trying to create a Time Machine backup and have it include an external drive or card. I’d like to help.

Follow these steps:

To exclude items from your backup, open Time Machine preferences, click Options, then click the Add (+) button to add an item to be excluded. To stop excluding an item, such as an external hard drive, select the item and click the Remove (–) button.

ONLY MacOS formatted Volumes {HFS+, APFS} can be backed up by Time Machine.

If you have a drive in a different format such as ExFat, it is not likely that Time machine can back it up, unless you can reformat it (which erases all data) to MacOS Extended HFS+ format.

Windows Boot Volumes ALWAYS require a Windows backup, using a Windows-Specific backup program.
