Activation lock, my son never had the email associated with Icloud how do I now unlock it?

To get past an activation lock, you need to enter the Apple ID and password used to set it up. If you forgot the ID, start here: https://iforgot.apple.com/password/verify/appleid. If you forgot the password, see here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201487
If you can’t enter the ID and password, then there is no way to get it unlocked.
The problem is my son entered an email that he doesn't have and is already taken by someone else therefore can't reset password. Now what??
And if I don't have the receipt from that long ago?
