Hello Appledoesntcare4,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand there's an issue taking photos, specifically using 1x. I'll do what I can to help.

Try all the steps you haven't already here: If the camera on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working

Answering these questions can help:

  • Does the camera work in other apps?
  • When you're unable to take photos, are you seeing a blank camera preview or is the app not responding?
  • Which version of iOS is on your iPhone? It can be found in Settings > General > About > Version.

Thanks.

Appledoesntcare4,

Thanks for the additional information. It appears the camera is unable to focus when not zooming.

The next best thing to do is to see if it might be software-related by removing the software and adding it back:

    1. Back up your iPhone: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
    2. Restore the iPhone to factory settings using a computer: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
    3. Set up the iPhone as new to test if the behavior still happens.

If it does happen when set up as new, reach out to the Apple Support team: Contact Apple Support

If it doesn't, try restoring your backup to see if it happens again: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

Take care.
