TVos update fails from 13.2 to 13.3 (ATV 4K)

Hi,


I have a AppleTV 4K currently running 13.2 TVos. I'm trying to do the update to version 13.3 via a manual update process in the gui but it fails. The download appears to happen, goes to preparing update stage 1 of 2 and then fails before it starts applying update.


Things I've checked

DNS = auto (gets pointed at my router from DHCP)

Connected via Ethernet or Wi-Fi has the same result.

Free space is approx 26GB on this 32GB model

I've performed both a partial reset and reset and update attempt without success.

I've attempted to get into "recovery" mode by holding the "menu" and "computer" button until it flashes but it seems to just reboot. Perhaps I have the wrong keys?


I think it's over 1 yr old so no AppleCare left on the device. Is it forever stuck at 13.2?

Yes, after you choose "Reset", you are presented with a second choice of "Reset and Update" or "Reset Only". That downloaded successfully and applied the updates.


It is equivalent to a factory reset, so you need to re-download all apps (the easiest way is to set it up by holding the iPhone close, then in the app store just install apps from the "Not on this device" section).
